I think working with horses gives me a good challenge. My visions don't always work because the horse doesn't really want to do that. I feel so blessed to have done this session. It makes me just remember that I can capture things as they are and that is what I desire. To just watch as they interact and capture images that might take her breath away. I hope you enjoy these.

This wedding took my breath away. I have been to many weddings and this one just was so perfect. It was relaxed and friendly. Halie worked so hard on all the details and her vision was breath taking. One of my favorite times was when Halie took Eugene to go see the reception area and he was in awe. He said that he helped with little things here and there and didn't really know what she was putting together...but that this was more than he ever expected...it took his breath away. I feel so blessed to be around couples that truly, deeply love each other. You guys are so perfect for each other and I felt like I was the one that was blessed to be part of your wedding. It was a true honor. Thank you for letting me play a part in your wedding.

Some times you have a plan and sometimes you have to realize that God holds your plans. Having children are a great reminder of that. This sweet amazing lady is pregnant with her 4th boy. I got the privilege to document this pregnancy for her. I felt so honored and blessed to be a part of this pregnancy since she was here visiting from Texas. Thank you for a fun session. Peyton's 5th Birthday Party

I know it's been awhile since I have blogged and blogged about pictures. I am a little behind. The summer has been so busy for us.

I wanted to share Peyton's 5th birthday party with you guys. I spent so many hours preparing for this. Sewing and cutting and printing things. It's been crazy. Peyton wanted a Tangled party. I am not that into doing these types of parties so I went searching online for some great ideas. I used some other peoples ideas and did a few on my own. I hope you enjoy. I made these crowns out of felt and used the template from here, but used felt instead of paper. I love how they turned out.

I came up with the idea of making frying pans. I love these.

The kids all put together Pascal party blowers. It was a fun thing.

Then it was cake time. I was going to make this cake but decided I had enough on my plate. The cake was made by Haute cakes and confections

This is what I did on my birthday today...oh and last night too. One thing that I am SUPER sad I didn't take a picture of...was my brother in-law Dave just flat walked right threw our screen door. I was more worried about him to think to take a picture...I am sad about it now. =) Dave beat the screen up...he won.

Their is something special about walking into a home that has just welcomed in a new member to their family. It's something I really don't know how to explain. It's like their have permanent smiles on their faces, some sort of proud feeling in the air, and the smell of a fresh clean home. I just feel so blessed to be a part of something special. I just adored this little guy. He was so good and just so darn handsome. The one thing that I loved about this session is that the dad drew up a sketch of some robots and alien, and had a friend do a canvas painting for his nursery. It was so special and just a neat thing to get to see. You could see the proud face of the father as he shared it with me. I hope you all enjoy a few pictures from this session. I loved being there...so comfortable and welcomed. Thanks guys!

I got the pleasure of spending the afternoon with these two sweet people. They are so cute and just so in love. I really enjoyed getting to know them on a different level. My cousin is the handsome fella. I can't believe he is old enough to get married. He is the baby in our family and I am more than happy for him. His soon to be wife is stunning and so amazingly sweet. I was blown away with her sweet heart. I am so honored to be their photographer and am looking forward to their big day. A boy day

Today has been filled with everything boy. We have a MAJOR water problem in our backyard. It's so wet from all the rain and us being on a hill. We have a waterfall going down our back rock wall. It's so bad that it's standing water in our yard. Anyone want to come fix it for us??? I hate not being able to use our backyard.
That being said a guy from EWEB (eugene water and electric board) came to take a look at things to see if their is anything they can do on there end. NOPE So anyways...he showed up in the morning,the kids and I headed out side. Jammies and boots...oh yeah. Porter loves the mud...that is until he fell face first into it. Got a bloody lip and was covered in mud. He cried for a few seconds then started stomping in the mud again. So what does every perfect Mom do....I went and grabbed my camera because it was funny. =) So we stomped in the mud for awhile. Then it was bath time. So after bath I let the little guy run around naked...he loves it. I'm thankful for hard wood floors. I just said..."Porter...please don't pee on my rug or down the vent" So he's playing with his legos, building things...of course right over the vent...and yep...he peed down it. Oh man is all I can say. I also have caught the biggest spider I have ever seen in my house. Then we decided to get dressed and go downstairs to play so I could sort, fold and do laundry. All 6 loads I have today. yuck by the way. As I am loading the laundry Porter is coloring all over himself with his sisters markers that I had NO idea were in his reach. So now he is all colored and taking a nap. I didn't even try to get off the non washable markers. So here is a few photos of Porter in the mud. Even muddy he is so handsome. =)

So this sorry is too sweet not to share.

This is a story about Peyton...my big 4.5 year old and my husband....my amazing man. They were driving in the car. Nate picked her up from her cousin's house and they were coming home. This is what Nate told me when he got home. I was teary eyed.

Daddy: "Peyton, I really love you"
Peyton: "I love you too dad"
Daddy: "Do you know what love means?"
Peyton: "yes I do"
Daddy: "what does it mean"
Peyton: "love is patient"
Daddy: "yeah"
Peyton: "love is kind"
Daddy: "do you know what that mean?"
Peyton: "no"
Daddy: "it means that if you love someone, you will be patient and kind to them"

Nate told me in the story that he was so amazed that because of the power of praise and worship Peyton had this conversation with him. I am so blessed to have a little girl that's heart is so big she doesn't really know how to handle it. She soaks in all the world around her and I think she is doing a pretty good job at figuring out the important things. She is such a blessing.

Snow, Horses and a birthday lady

Oh my dear....this session was the most coldest session I have ever had. I LOVED every second of it. I have never done a session in the snow...we don't get it much here. I went to visit my best friend in sunny California. We were missing the "sunny" part for most of the trip. The last day I was there it was finally NOT raining. I was sad her husband wasn't with us but I was able to grab some pictures of them and just C. These pictures to me have such emotion behind them. I am loving the beach pictures. We were going for a picture to print on a canvas. I hope you enjoy of few pictures. This little guy is 3 week younger than my Porter. It was fun to visit and I can't wait to go back. So I remember when Peyton was almost 2 and she was sitting on my lap. She looked over at her daddy and out of now where asked him for a pony.

One of my sweet friends owns and operates Poseidon Stables. I am working on a really fun awesome photography project with her, so me and my family took a little time today to go check it out. It is amazing there. The horses are all beautiful. Peyton and Porter just loved it. Peyton was touching all the horses on the noses...running up and down the outside, just in awe of it all. She turned and looked at her dad again....can we get a pony.

So I am thinking about doing a Mom's photo session. Just do a bunch of quick mini sessions for a whole day and just takes pictures of you Mom's, yes by yourself. I know that I don't like being behind the camera, but you need to have pictures of yourself every once in awhile. I will get a date planned and give you more information and cost soon. Brother Bear's Haircut

So Porter had his first haircut. He is almost 15 months today and I was really sad to see baby Porter leave my life. He is now really our little man. Porter is wild and crazy and into everything. I love that guy but he sure keeps me on my toes. I'm exhausted after each day being with him. But man he is cute.

Little Family

I was so excited to meet this new little girl. These clients are friends of ours and I just got so giddy to go see their new member of their family. When I walked in, the mom just had this huge smile on her face and you could just tell that she was so excited to share her new baby. Dad was sitting on the couch watching football and holding this tiny little thing wrapped in a pink blanket. Oh how I have missed tiny baby girls. Boys are just boys, but girls, oh they just have this wonderful sweetness about them. My favorite part about this couple is that I remember the mom saying that this little girl is just what their family was missing. I have to say, she just fits perfectly in. Congratulations you guys. She is absolutely beautiful. Enjoy that tiny girl.

Highschool Senior

So I don't get to do many high school students but this girl made me so happy. It was a nice change. Instead of running around after kids to get their picture. I got to say...oh can you move your hand just a little to the right, okay...stay there. It was nice. =)
She is so beautiful and I really loved spending the afternoon with her. We talked and giggled, tried to stay out of trouble, enjoyed some yummy coffee and just had a good time. Thank you sweet Mindy for your fun session. I can't wait to show you all of them.

I just love this cute, sweet family. It was a fast little session but man look at that sweet girl. Her hair is so amazing. I loved that everything I said she repeated me. Me: "Sweet girl can you sit down please" her: "sit down please". Oh it was just too much for me. I wanted to take her home with me. Something about little girls at this age makes me all mushy. I also went to high school with the mom of this beauty and it has been so fun to see my high school friends all grown up with kids. This family was so much fun to be around. They really are fabulous. I went to high school with this couple and they were high school sweethearts and I have to say that I loved that I got to be able to spend an evening with them. I loved seeing them with their kids and seeing them be so happy. I know they still are in love with each other and I love that they were comfortable around me. Their 3 boys, oh how I love them. I had so much fun with them and it was so relaxed and easy. I loved that their grandma go to jump in some pictures too. Thank you two so much for sharing your fabulous family with me. So I am a little attached to this family. My cousin and his 3 kids are joined in a family with a old high school friend and her 2 kids. Makes such a wonderful group of people. You can see by some of the pictures that they all just love each other. My cousin has always been special to me, but this was such a neat experience to be with him this way. Okay so I am looking for someone, thing, family, group or something to let me take some pictures of them in the snow when it finally gets here...well it's here just not here. =) If you are interested, let me know. I would need to have kids that would be able to cooperate. Thinking maybe Sahalie falls or something like that. So it would be a little travel but was thinking I would love to get some snow pictures. I have really loved this location and so have my clients. They all love it and pick it. I have to say it's perfect. Julie and I worked together a long time ago. I remember her being pregnant with her son. Plus our daughters are the same age.
I love that we are still friends and get to see each others kids grow up. Thanks for letting me capture your family at this time in your busy lives. I really enjoyed every minute of it. So I have a best friend that lives in California. We grew up on the same street and have been friends since about 3 years old. She is the most beautiful woman ever. That girl can make anyone's bad day better. We have gone through so much together. The best thing has been being pregnant together with our little boys. Then to go through newborn stage and to finally make it to the big 1 year old. It actually puts tears in my eyes to think that we have made it through that time and that our little guys are actually 1.
Today is her little boy Connor's first birthday. Oh how I love that little guy. He is probably the sweetest things ever. I wish that we lived on the same street again and that I was able to see her be the amazing mother that she is. Sommer....you are so beautiful and so wonderful. Connor is beyond blessed to have a mommy like you. I remembering crying the second I found out Connor was born and I am crying now that he is 1. I'm sad, because I want to be there. Please give that boy a kiss from me and tell him I love him. Congratulations Mommy and Daddy for raising a big 1 year old. I love you all. See you soon I hope.

So when I go to meet up with clients I always wonder how will I know it's them and will it be strange. Well these clients pulled up and the mom got out of the car and I totally in my head was like "hey I know her". Then we figured it out that we went to high school together (she was a grade below me) and her little sister is my little sisters best friend. Did you follow that. =)
So this family was just too much cuteness. I loved how they just loved their little girl and you could just tell that being a family fit them so well. This girl is so lucky and just so happy. I wanted to take her home with me. I love little girls at this age. They melt my heart and make me want another one. Thank you guys so much for a fun afternoon. I hope you enjoy a few pictures. I can't wait to show you what else I got. Also, Katie....you look SO amazing in the black and white with just your husband. It's stunning, simply stunning.

Brother Bear

So our little Porter is the big 1 year old today. He is so amazing. I am not sure I can type what he is. He is such a boy. He snuggles me and I never had that with Peyton and oh how I love it. He is such a mommies boy. He clings to me and always wants me to hold him. If I am not holding him, he is at my legs crying and screaming to be picked up. Makes some days long. But wait...he's 1 already. I need to go pick him up and tell him to stop growing. He loves to laugh and just has the sweetest little deep laugh. His sister makes him laugh the hardest. Oh how he adores her with every ounce of his little soul. He some times will just run around laughing at nothing. I just love that. I love how he says ah oh. It's probably one of my favorite things right now in my life. I don't know how that little guy just fits so perfectly in to our little family. Life was so good before him, but now....now, life is complete and perfect. He makes me want to pinch his cheeks and kiss his head and oh how I am going to miss this baby. Cause today he is a big 1 year old.
Porter, you are my love, my sweet boy, my constant lover in my life, my snuggle bug, my brother bear and my perfect son. You have blessed me this year with your presence and with your unconditional love. I am so glad to be your mom and you are always going to be my little man. Please for me...don't grow up too fast. I am already crying that you're not a baby any more. Happy Birthday sweet sweet Porter! I love you!

So these grandparents are so amazing and you can just see how much their grandkids love them. I was a little bit jealous of this session because I wish I had a picture like these with my grandparents. In fact I teared up missing my grandparents that have passed.
Plus I took pictures before of two of the grandkids about a year ago. I loved seeing them again. You can see it here.
I think this family is so beautiful on the inside and out. I was so blessed to spend some time with them. Thank you guys from the bottom of my heart. I adore your family.

I always love going to Detering Orchard. I always take my kids pictures there every year. Was nice to have a family that wanted to go here too. So fun to explore.

A little Wedding post

Some times I work with another photographer. Here are a few from a wedding I did a couple weeks ago for her. We went to Oregon Gardens for some pre-ceremony pictures.

Her Dad died when she was a young. She had a picture of the two of them and her parents wedding rings tied to her flowers. So he would be with her all day. Made me tear up.

I had so much fun with this maternity session. I loved the clothes and her attitude. It helps that they let me take them anywhere. This was such a fun, relaxing, enjoyable session. We all laughed at the mooing cows, sprinkles in August and thunder and lightening. It was such a nice way to spend my evening. This man....oh this man. He is so amazing. 7 years ago today we married each other. We married in love and we married to have a family and we married to be together forever. I can truly and deeply say that I love him more now then the day of our wedding. He is my rock, my sunshine, my only true friend, my best friend, my husband that is even a better father, he grounds me and makes me a better person, he believes in me and supports me, he thanks for raising his kids and is so understanding when the house isn't clean when he gets home from work, more than any of these things...he is the love of my life. We went on our first date in March 1998 and I actually knew it there that he would be such a great husband and an even better father. I would just like to say that I was right. =) I am not a good writer and I am sure I am not expressing myself the way that I feel. I just love this man and I love that he still loves me after all of these years together. Nate, I love you and I am so blessed to have you. Right now in my life I am so happy, tired from our kids, but so truly happy. Thank you for loving me and for our beautiful perfect family. I adore you with all my heart. Here is to many more wonderful years.

My amazing little girl is 4 years old today. I can't believe I have a four year old. She is the most sweet, sassy, beautiful girl. I just adore her and she melts my heart. She loves to talk, sing, play with anything girlie. She is a challenge but she is my challenge and I wouldn't have it any other way. I love the way she smells, the way she makes her brother laugh, the way she sings little mermaid songs, the way her smile just puts tears in my eyes, the way she prays (oh that girl has a heart for the lord) she can out pray me any day, the way she laughs so hard it actually makes me laugh, the way simple little things just make her go "oh mom....look at this", the way she just can't help picking up her brother even after being told 100 times not to, I love the way she snuggles on my lap in the morning, more than anything I love our family. She has changed so much this year. She started preschool and met so many new friends, she can write her name, loves to color and loves to do "homework", would watch shows 24/7 if she could. Right now I love her white little buns with tan legs from all the swimming at nana and papa's. Really more than anything in this world I just am so honored to be her Mom, so blessed to call her mine, so amazed that Nate and I could make such an amazing little bundle of joy. Peyton I love you so very much, you are my sunshine and the apple of my eye. Don't change and try not to grow up too fast. I already miss tiny Peyton. Enjoy your fourth year.

So this big 4 year old is so full of life and is such a happy little girl. She reminds me so much of my daughter. We were talking and I asked her what her favorite food is....Ketchup she says...then changed it to Feta cheese. Silly little girl. We went to a fun little park in Hillsboro, Oregon and I loved walking around with her and playing games. It was so hot and I thought she was going to melt because she was so sweet. Oh and I screamed like a wussy girl when I saw a snake right in front of me. I made her mommy scream too. I don't really like snakes in my way. I hope you enjoy some pictures. I love my kids. I love kids in general, but it's something about having your own children that just melts your heart. Today was a really hard day. Peyton kept picking up her brother and dropping him, brother is getting his second tooth and I have never seen a more swollen tooth in my life. That has to hurt. It was a fussy day for that one. But I was able to get a couple cute pictures of them. It feels like it's been too long. On the positive side...we get to have family pictures taken tomorrow. I can't wait. We haven't done family pictures since Porter was born. I'll let you know how it goes. Just so you all know...yes it's hard for me to figure out what everyone should wear. I'm stressing about it...plus I HATE having my picture taken. I know funny huh. Enjoy a few of my sweet babies.

So I absolutely love this girl. She is so amazing. Celeste was our real estate agent when we sold and bought a house this past fall. Lets just say she put up with the crazy pregnant lady. =) I actually went to school with Celeste but hadn't seen her in awhile. I am so blessed that we found her. She was so good to us. You can see it in a post here. I would not have these pictures if it wasn't for her. I forgot my camera at home for my daughters first field trip. She saw my post on facebook. Found out where I was at and used the real estate key to get my camera and drive it all the way out to where we were. I don't know many people, or friends that would do that for me.

Since we moved we really haven't met any of our neighbors. The one across the street just had a brand new baby girl and I got to take her sweet pictures. She is SO tiny. I have Porter, who is a chunk by the way, and she looks like a little pea compared to him. This family was so sweet and so caring. I just loved being at there house. I even got made the yummiest breakfast burrito for lunch. It was such a nice way to spend a Sunday. Thank you guys for making me feel so welcomed and for allowing me to capture your sweet family. I have been doing some work today and I just can't stop looking at this picture. I just adore it and it melts my heart so much. The beautiful mommy is my best friend. Through struggles and trials that smile looking at her son just puts tears in my eyes. Being a Mom is such hard work. Don't get me wrong that it's also amazing. But life takes a huge turn when you have children. That sweet smile when you look at your first born child is one that will just take your breath away. So my best friend had a little boy 3 weeks after Porter was born and 3 weeks before Porter was born, her sister in-law had a baby. So their are 3 babies 3 weeks apart from each other. Did you follow that? I am not sure I can follow it. Here...Baylor was born first, then 3 weeks later Porter was born, and then 3 weeks later Connor was born. Phew...that was hard.
Over the holidays I got to finally meet these sweet babies. It's such a joy to have babies so close to each other. We have shared so many stories and have cried so many tears together. I had the honor of photographing such sweeties. I love my job and I love my friends.

So I finally had my little man on October 13th. We named him Porter and he is just the sweetest little thing. I've been enjoying a break from work but will be doing sessions again really soon.
Peyton had a field trip to the pumpkin patch and I decided to do an impromptu session with Porter. So his outfit isn't what I would have picked, but he was warm and it was cold and foggy outside. So, here are just a couple. I will be taking more later.

So I finally got my hands on my newest nephew. He is just about 4 months old now. Crazy how time flies and how big he gets in such a short time. Why Professional Photographers Cost So Much?

This is a great article that I was glad I read. It makes me feel better about charging my clients. Mind you I don't charge as much as they are talking about but it sure helps clients have a better understand about what goes into being a professional photographer.

Why are Professional Photographers so expensive?

In this digital age where everyone has digital cameras, scanners and home “photo printers”, when people upload their photos to a local drug store website and pick them up a few hours later, we hear this all the time - How in the world do Professional Photographers charge $55 for an 8×10 when they cost just $1.50 at the drug store?

Here’s why.

Simply put, you’re not just paying for the actual photograph, you’re paying for time and expertise. First, let’s look at the actual time involved. If you don’t read this entire page, at least read this first part.

For a two hour portrait session:

- one hour of travel to and from the session
- two hours of shooting
- 30 minutes of setup, preparation, talking to the client etc.
- 30 minutes to load the photos onto a computer (2 - 4 Gb of data)
- 30 minutes to back up the files on an external drive
- 3 - 4 hours of Photoshop time including cropping, contrast, color, sharpening, saving a copy for print and a copy for the internet and backing up the edited photographs
- 2 - 3 hours to talk to the client, answer questions, receive their order and payment, order their prints, receive and verify prints, package prints, schedule shipment and drop package off at Fed Ex.
- For local customers, we also print a set of all of their photos, and meet them at our studio to review the photos and place their order. Meeting and travel time averages 2 hours.

You can see how one two hour session easily turns into more than ten hours of work from start to finish. So when you see a Photographer charging a $200 session fee for a two hour photo shoot, you are not paying them $100 / hour.

For an eight hour wedding:

- I won’t bore you with the details, but an eight hour wedding typically amounts to at least two to three full 40 hour work weeks worth of time. Again, if they are charging you $4,000 for an eight hour wedding, you are not paying them $500 / hour.

Now for the expertise.

Shooting professional photography is a skill, acquired through years of experience. Even though a quality camera now costs under $2,000 taking professional portraits involves much more than a nice camera.

Most Professional Photographers take years to go from buying their first decent camera to making money with their photography. In addition to learning how to use the camera itself, there is a mountain of other equipment involved, as well as numerous software programs used to edit and print photographs, run a website etc.

And let’s not forget that you actually have to have people skills, be able to communicate, make people comfortable in front of the camera - and posing people to make them look their best in a photograph is a skill all by itself.

Think of it this way - the next time you pay $X to get your hair done, a pair of scissors only costs $1.50. But you gladly pay a lot more to hire a Professional.

What about the cheap studios at the mall?

Please don’t compare us to the chain store studios. But if you must, consider all of the time and work that we put into our photographs, compared to what they do. Good luck getting a two hour photo shoot at a chain store. Not to mention they won’t come to the beach! And of course, look at our work compared to theirs. You get what you pay for.

The truth is, most of the mall and chain store studios lose money. In fact, in 2007 Wal-Mart closed 500 of their portrait studios because of the financial drain they were putting on the company. What the chain stores bet on is that you’ll come in for some quick and cheap photos, and while you’re there, you’ll also spend $200 on other things. They don’t have to make money, they are just there to get you in the door.

Conclusion

We hope that those who have taken the time to read this page will have a better understanding of why professional photographs cost so much more than the ones that you get from your local drug store.

I can't help it. For some reason I am just in love with this picture. I am not sure exactly what it is but I want it on my wall. This little one was so good for me. She never fell asleep, but was good the whole time. Her cute little name is Lucy. Isn't that the cutest name for her. She looks like a Lucy to me.

I had such an amazing time with this family of 5. The just had a new baby and I was so excited to come share a few hours in there home. I hope you guys enjoy a few pictures. I will let you know when I have them all ready. Thanks again for letting me spend time with all of you. You're family is one I will never forget.
